Sgt Harold F Bleksley .     RAF. 220 SQD (d.11th Feb 1940)




Sgt. Arthur Frank Blencowe .     Royal Air Force No. 103 Squadron   from Camberwell

(d.26th Apr 1942)

Vickers Wellington Mk IC Aircraft, Reg DV579, went missing after having made a bombing mission from RAF Elsham Wold. The aircraft went down in the North Sea NW of Ameland in the Netherlands. It is possible that it was the same Wellington claimed to have been shot down by Uffz Heinz Grimm 5./NJG2 in the North Sea NW of Ameland at 03:37 on 26 April 1942. The bomber’s crew all perished and are commemorated as follows:

  • R/78203 Flt. Sgt. Charles Lorne Bray DFM RCAF, Runnymede Memorial Panel 102.
  • 1259439 Sgt. Frank O'Kearney Eivers, Runnymede Memorial Panel 82.
  • 1280517 Sgt. Sydney Harold Harle, Runnymede Memorial Panel 85.
  • 1258441 Sgt. Arthur Frank Blencowe, Runnymede Memorial Panel 78.
  • 929396 Sgt. Harry Bircham Bullen, Runnymede Memorial Panel 79.
  • 1161384 Sgt. Dennis William Musgrove, Runnymede Memorial Panel 90.




F/O. John Dawson Blencowe .     Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve 149 Squadron   from Sevenoaks, Kent

(d.24th Feb 1944)

John Blencowe is recorded at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission his Date of Death is 24/02/1944 he was aged 29 serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in 149 Sqdn. He is remembered on the Runnymede Memorial and was the son of Capt. Frederick John and Ethel Helen Blencowe.

Pte. Arthur Blerkom .     British Army 5th Btn. East Yorkshire Regiment   from London

(d.6th June 1944)

I never knew my father. But honour him and all the other brave men on 6th June and Remembrance Day, every year. My son and I have visited his grave at Bayeaux Cemetery, Normandy which was very upsetting as there were so many young men buried there. Thank God we had such brave heroes to save us from the tyranny of Nazi Germany.

John Blezard .     Royal Navy HMS Europa   from Preston, Lancashire

We have found my Grandad Jack Blezard's service record. He trained at HMS Royal Arthur 8th July to 13th Aug 1941 then moved across to other ships including Europa and Cormorant. He served until 1946. He died in Thurrock in 1965 but is buried in Norwich.

Fl/Lt. Robert A. Blincoe .     Royal Air Force RAF Strubby

My grandfather served at RAF Strubby during WWII. He was a navigator in Lancasters.




Sgt. Alec Mark Blinko .     British Army 35th LAA, 144th Bty. Royal Artillery   from High Wycombe

(d.5th March 1943)

Alec Blinko was born in Beaconsfield in 1903. He grew up in Buckinghamshire and in 1923 he enlisted in the Royal Hussars serving for his contracted period until 1939. In 1927 he was transferred to cavalry of the line due to his regiment going to India for 5/6 years and his time was due up in 1929. I also have Army education certificate dated 8-9th Sept 1927 in Edinburgh where he had a two day exam along with a photo dated 11th September 1927 also in Edinburgh, at a cavalry barracks.

In 1940 at age 37 he re-enlisted in the Royal Artillery Territorials. He died as a prisoner of war. Alec left two young sons and a wife in High Wycombe and is remembered still by his son George Blinko with great love and sorrow for the Dad who was taken away from him.

Norman Rees Blissett .     British Army Military Police   from Merthyr Tydfil

My Grandfather, Norman Blissett from Merthyr Tydfil, survived the bombing of the Lancastria ship in 1940. It was amazing as he could not swim. He was a military policeman in the Army. He would never go on holidays with the family after the war, as he said that he was fed up with traveling during the war.

Unfortunatly, I never met him as I was born 5 years after he suddenly passed away in 1974. He sounded a very interesting man.

WO/1 L. B. Bloch .     South African Air Force Cape Province 31 Sqdn. (d.12th October 1944)

Liberator KH158H, with eight crew, disappeared on a supply dropping mission to Italian partisans on 12th/13th October 1944 and was never found. The full crew were:

  • Mjr S.S. Urry, SAAF, 1st Pilot
  • Lt. G.A. Collard, SAAF, Navigator
  • 2/Lt. P.J. Lordan, SAAF
  • WO(2) G.E. Hudspith, RAF, 2nd Pilot
  • Sgt. R.C. Fitzerald, RAFVR, Airgunner
  • WO(1) L.B. Bloch, SAAF, Airgunner
  • Lt. N.W. Armstrong, SAAF, Airgunner

    All are commemorated on the Malta Memorial.

    John Harvey Bloedorn .     United States Army   from Watertown, Wisconsin

    My grandfather, John H. Bloedorn, was a prisoner of war in Stalag IVB. He was captured before the Battle of the Bulge and liberated by the Russians. He is alive and well in Watertown, Wisconsin. Please reach out if you knew him or would like to be in contact with him.

    William James "Doc" Blomeley .     Royal Air Force 432 squadron   from Kingston, On

    My father, Bill Blomeley, served in WW2, as a rear gunner in "willie the Wolf", a Halifax bomber. I still have his log book of all the bombing runs over Germany.




    Marine. Charles Leslie Blomfield .     Royal Navy Royal Marines   from Battersea




    Pte. Frederick Blomley .     British Army 1st Btn. East Lancashire Regiment   from Oldham

    (d.28th Mar 1945)

    While acting as stretcher bearer, Frederick Blomley was killed by a mortar bomb.




    Cook Jack Blonder .     Merchant Navy SS Cape Corso (d.2nd May 1942)

    Jack Blonder lost his life when the SS Cape Corso was sunk.
