He continued to fly after the war with 616 squadron R.Aux.Air Force based at R.A.F. Finningley. Unfortunately he was killed in a flying accident in May 1954.

CPO Arthur John Blowe DSM.     Royal Navy HMS Aurora   from Portsmouth

My uncle, Arthur John Blowe, served in the Second World War on HMS Aurora. I loved hearing his stories as he was in the Navy from the age of 16, then as a diver.

He was demobbed after the war and worked in Southampton for a while but the call of the sea was too great and he then joined the crew of the Queen Elizabeth, sailing between Southampton and New York. He was my favourite uncle and I loved him.

PO. Frederick Drummond Blower .     Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve 141 Squadron   from Liverpool

    (d.11th May 1943)

Warrant Officer (658317) Frederick Drummond Blower was made Pilot Officer (146165) on 19th March 1943. He served in 141 Squadron. His death was registered in Peterborough, so it is likely that he died in the vicinity of his home airfield RAF Wittering. I do not know whether his death was due to enemy action or not.

    Margaret Blower .     Land Army

My sister in law Margaret Mogford nee Blower served in the land army during ww2. She likes talking of her bit she did as a land army girl.

Margaret Blower .     Womens Land Army

I still have fond memories of my time in the Land Army which were very happy times spent mainly in Warwickshire. My dearest friend was Flo Lockey who married a man from Shipston-on-Stour and I would dearly love some information about Flo. My other friend was a girl named Maud nickname Ginger for obvious reasons, who married a Canadian and went to live in Canada. The place she lived was in Manitoba. They were great friends and I truly missed them when I left the Land Army for family reasons.

Able Sea. Robert Blower .     Royal Navy HMS Hunter   from Redcar

    (d.14th Apr 1940)

Robert Blower died shortly after the Battle of Narvik, in which HMS Hunter was sunk. He was taken ashore and died 4 days later, possibly of his wounds or due to exposure.

Pte. W Blows .     British Army

My grandfather was a POW in Germany during WWII, at Stalag XXA. His POW No. was 10. Does anyone remember him?

Can you help us to add to our records?

The names and stories on this website have been submitted by their relatives and friends. If your relations are not listed please add their names so that others can read about them

Did you or your relatives live through the Second World War? Do you have any photos, newspaper clippings, postcards or letters from that period? Have you researched the names on your local or war memorial? Were you or your relative evacuated? Did an air raid affect your area?

If so please let us know.

Help us to build a database of information on those who served both at home and abroad so that future generations may learn of their sacrifice.

    Celebrate your own Family History

Celebrate by honouring members of your family who served in the Secomd World War both in the forces and at home. We love to hear about the soldiers, but also remember the many who served in support roles, nurses, doctors, land army, muntions workers etc.

Please use our Family History resources to find out more about your relatives. Then please send in a short article, with a photo if possible, so that they can be remembered on these pages.

The free section of the Wartime Memories Project website is run by volunteers. We have been helping people find out more about their relatives wartime experiences since 1999 by recording and preserving recollections, documents, photographs and small items.

The website is paid for out of our own pockets, library subscriptions and from donations made by visitors. The popularity of the site means that it is far exceeding available resources and we currently have a huge backlog of submissions.

If you are enjoying the site, please consider making a donation, however small to help with the costs of keeping the site running.
