He left a widow and a small baby girl.
He was an army reservist who held the rank of sergeant and was called up at the outbreak of war.
He arrived in the Balkans on Tuesday 13th of July 1915 and served in the Gallipoli Campaign. Additional Information: | ALCESTER SERGEANT MAJOR KILLED.
News was received in Alcester on Wednesday that C. S. M. George Hemming Royal Warwickshire Regiment has been killed in action in Mesopotamia on 14th April. Before the war Sgt Hemming as he was then belonged to Reserves and was called up shortly after the Declaration of War. He went Egypt with his Regiment and afterwards saw service in Gallipoli where he was wounded. During this period he promoted to Company Sergeant Major then later came home for a short leave. He again saw service in Mesopotamia Campaign being amongst the Warwicks in the capture of Kut and Baghdad. Sympathy is felt with his widow and young baby who are left to mourn his loss. Also with his aged mother (Mrs Hemming of the Priory Alcester) and other members of the family.
