Pte. Walter Ainsworth

Walter Ainsworth died of dysentery on 25th September 1915, aged 35. Commemorated on the Helles Memorial in Gallipoli, Turkey.

Additional Information:

Official information has been received of the death from dysentry of Private Walter Ainsworth, of 19, Campell Street, Habergham. Private Ainsworth, whose death occurred in Egypt, served in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Previous to enlisting, he was employed as an enameller at Messrs Francis Helms Foundry, Padiham. He was 35 years of age, and leaves a widow and four children. The deceased soldier enlisted in the Royal Garrison Artillery on November 11th last and was transferred to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, never having been in the Army before. His death is stated to have taken place on September 25th and on the previous day his wife had a letter from him saying that he was in the trenches in Gallipoli and was quite well.
