219308 Pte. Joseph Liney Mackinder MM. British Army 2nd Batallion Suffolk Regiment from:Long Sutton, Lincs. (d.1st Oct 1918) I found out about Joseph Liney Mackinder whilst tracing my family history. He was my grandmother's cousin and although I didn't know him I was very proud that an "ordinary" agricultural worker from a large family living at Long Sutton in Lincolnshire, could go to war and win a Military Medal for Bravery in the Field. He served with the Suffolk Regiment 2nd Battalion and died on 1st October 1918 - possibly during the battle to take Rumilly. I would love to know more about him. Additional Information: 1918 was not a great year for the Mackinders of Long Sutton. The husbands of 2 of Jo. Liney Mack's sisters, Eliza and Annie Elizabeth (Lil), were killed in France (Arthur Barker in April and Francis Slator in March) that year. Then, when another sister, Ellen (my grandmother) and her family went from Chesterfield (where they were living) to Long Sutton for a Joseph Liney Mack memorial service, she contracted Spanish Flu and died in December.
