213255 Cpl. Matthew Brown British Army 7th Battalion Norfolk Regiment (d.28th April 1917) I found out that Matthew Brown is my paternal great, great grandfather. He died in Arras aged 21, but as far as I know his body was never found.
I don't know a lot about him but would love to find out more.
Additional Information: | Believed to have been with 7th Batt Norfolk Reg, an attack on 28th from Monchy Wood on Rifle/Bayonnet Trenches was a total failure, 2 companies in first wave lost, a follow up by 2 further companies 40 minutes later was also halted, 66+ men lost or missing, now recalled on arras memorial in town, very few seem to have made it back , wounded sniped at, heavy mg fire any dead or seriously hurt unable to be retrieved most still lay missing in the fields north of Monchy Wood.c mackenzie

| Matthew Brown died at Monchy on the 28th of April 1917 in a attack on rifle and bayonet trenches, 4am assault by two companies from Monchy Wood northwards, supported shortly after by 2 more companies, attack stopped by German machine guns and artillery from the start, 60+ men missing without trace,still in the fields to the north of Monchy Wood commemorated at Arras memorial in town, just 1 of several attacks in this location in March/April by various units with the same outcome of large losses killed or missing mostly never seen again.mackenzie
