Chandos Scouller was lost in a flying Battle over the North Sea. His resting place is Hamburg Cemetery, Hamburg, Germany.

WO2 D. D. Scowen .     Royal Canadian Air Force 419 Sqdn.

Halifax ll DT646 VR-C was shot down during a raid to Essen 5th March 1943. T/O Middleton St. George 18.57, hit by flak over target and also attacked by nightfighter, aircraft crashed near Elst Holland at 21.37.

    Tpr. Harold William "Sonny" Screech .     British Army B Sqn. 5th Troop 13/18th Royal Hussars   from Rayleigh, Essex

    My father, Harold Screech, (Harry or Sonny to friends) joined the British Armed Forces in August 1942 and was assigned to 13/18th Royal Hussars, B Squadron, 5th Troop in September 1942. Initially based in Skipton, Yorkshire, his unit trained at various locations throughout the UK. In the later months leading up to D-Day his training was mostly connected with the use of Sherman DD Tanks. He was trained as a driver.

    He embarked from Gosport on 5th of June 1944 in an LCT bound for Queen Red, Sword Beach. Launched 5000 yards from shore, his tank swam ashore and immediately engaged in the fighting. He fought throughout the Normandy campaign, through France and Belgium and into Holland.

    He was wounded in April 1945 during Operation Market Garden near Arnhem. He was initially hospitalised in Holland before being sent back to the UK on leave. He returned to his unit and continued operations in Holland and Germany until the war ended. He was transferred to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps in March 1946 and then to Royal Army Reserve in May 1947. He completed his service and was discharged in June 1959. His character was referred to as Exemplary.

    Edwin Screech-Powell was my grandad. I have little information of his service record. He was from Buttervant in County Cork and fought in the British Army.

    I was prisoner in Stalag XIB at Fallingbostal. Last year, care of the 2nd R.E.M.E. I was able to return to visit the camp.

    P/O. Gordon John "Scuffy" Scuffins DFM..     Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve 57 Squadron   from Ipswich

    (d.30th Jul 1944)

    Gordon Scuffins was my uncle and I would love to know more about him. All I know is that his aircraft, a Lancaster came down over The Wash on 30th of July 1944 and was never recovered. I would like to know more about his life in the RAF prior to his tragic death. I know he was awarded the DFM but do not know whether this was awarded posthumously or prior to his death. Can anyone help me?

    Annie Scullion .     Civilian (d.2nd Jul 1940)

    Annie Scullion died age 35 at her home 34 Princess Street, Jarrow dueing an air raid. She was the daughter of John and Annie Malloy of 10 Calf Close Lane Primrose and wife of Henry Scullion who also died. Annie is buried in Jarrow Cemetery and is commemorated on the WW2 Roll of Honour Plaque in the entrance of Jarrow Town Hall.

    Frederick Albert Scully .     British Army Durham Light Infantry

    I am looking for information about my father who served in WWII with the DLI. Can anyone help please?




    Sgt. Gerard Scully .     RAF(VR) bomb aimer 77 Sqd. (d.13th May 1943)

    The the 13th of May 1943 at 06:20 on return to Elvington Halifax KN-K (JB 865) crashed in a field at High Belthorpe farm at Bishop Wilton killing the Pilot F/O Archibald and the Air Bomber Sgt Scully. The remainder of the crew, Sgt C.Hewitson, Sgt J.Gerry, Sgt G.Marlow, Sgt F.K.Smith and Sgt J.Currie, had only minor injuries.

    Sgt Scully was taken to his home town and buried at Olton Franciscan Cemetery, Solihull. He was 21 years old, his parents were Thomas and Freda Veronica Scully, of Edgbaston, Birmingham.

    My uncle was a rear gunner based at RAF Waterbeach 1944 he flew numerous missions and was shot down 3 8 44, and was a POW his pilot was mainly F/S Topham his name was Sgt Jim Scully I would like to hear from anyone who knew Jim I have his logbook POW and release papers Alan Costello nephew

    Sgt. Charles Scurr .     Royal Air Force 100 Squadron (d.3rd Feb 1945)




    Sgt Philip Dorian Seaborne .     Royal Air Force 242 Sqdn. (d.5th May 1942)

    Philip Seaborne was killed after crashing in poor visibility into a hillside in Scotland. He was stationed with 242 Sqdn RAF at Turnhouse. The aircraft he was flying was a Spitfire Mk Vb number W3244. He was 27 years old at the time of his death. He is buried in Nuneaton Warwickshire in Oasten Rd Cemetery. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star and the War Medal.




    William Henry Seabridge. .     Royal Air Force 10 Sqd. (d. 3rd Feb 1945 )

    My Uncle, William Henry Seabridge flew with 10 Squadron from RAF Melbourne in Yorkshire I do not have a photo of my Uncle, but I do have a photo of his F.O. R.A. Gibbs. Their Halifax was shot down over Holland and only one member of the crew survived. Date of crash was 03/02 1945.

    Update: Their aircraft was Halifax RG443 X1D ZA-Q and their target was Wanne-Eickel. The crash was west of the Maas between the villages of Haelen (Limburg) and Nunhem, 17 km E of Weert. Three of the crew are buried in the Jonkerbos War Cemetery and three in the Venray War Cemetery, F/O P.Cook survived the incident and was confined in Hospital due injuries until the liberation.
