264016 Bert Turner Royal Navy HMS Manchester from:Middlesbrough (d.14th August 1942) Bert Turner was my gran's cousin. He was a stoker. He was on board HMS Manchester when it was hit by the torpedo. Sadly, Bertie was one of the badly wounded and transferred off the ship but died on the 14th August 1942. He was born 1921 and was 21 years old. His mother had died when he was young and he was always around at his aunties and my gran thought of him more as a brother. They always had salmon sandwiches for tea when he was there as they were his favourite. She was devastated by his death so she was so pleased when I went to Malta and took a picture and laid some flowers at his memorial.
