Wanted: Digital copies of Group photographs, Scrapbooks, Autograph books, photo albums, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards and ephemera relating to WW2. We would like to obtain digital copies of any documents or photographs relating to WW2 you may have at home.

If you have any unwanted photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them. The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes. Cdr. Allistair Tennant "Tug" Wilson OBE, VRD.

Allistair Tennant Wilson

The Naval Career of Allistair Tennant Wilson R.N.V.R. on the 01.11.1926 he became a Probationary Midshipman at H.M.S. President. In 1927 Promotion to Midshipman at H.M.S. President, 21.03.1927 to 17.04.1927 he undertook Sea Training in H.M.S. Ramillies. In January 1928 he was Sea Training in H.M.S. Repulse. On 04.10.1928 he was promoted to Sub Lieutenant at H.M.S. President. From 06.07.1929 to 26.07.1929 we served in H.M.S. Comus. 02.06.1930 to 14.06.1930 he was Sea Training, at Rosyth with H.M.S. Vortigern. In May 1931 he was with H.M.S. Excellent the joined H.M.S. Dryad. 04.09.1931 to 18.09.1931 he was in H.M.S. Restless. On 04.10.1931 he was promotion to Lieutenant. 08.05.1932 to 19.06.1932 he was Sea Training in the North Sea with H.M.S. Dundalk. On 05.11.1932 he was board T.S.S. Patroclus bound for Singapore In January 1934 he was Executive Officer RNVR Singapore Division H.M.S. Laburnum. He returned to England in October 1935. 23.05.1937 to 12.06.1937 he was Sea Training in H.M.S. Rodney. In November 1938 Sea Training with H.M.S. Sharpshooter. July 1939 Sea Training in H.M.S. Acheron. On 23.08.1939 he was on passage to Malta in S.S. Brighton. 26.08.1939 Arriving on the 26th of August.

When war broke out he was in Malta with H.M.S. Dunoon and on 04.10.1939 he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander. On 09.11.1939 he joined H.M.S. St. Angelo from Fort St. Elmo in Malta. On 14.07.1941 A.K.H.M. under Captain of the Dockyard. 00.11.1941 he was V.R.D. Transporting Officer, Senior Staff Officer 20.11.1943 marked the end of service his under Rear Admiral K.D.MacKenzie in Malta. On 13.03.1944 he posted to Troon, with H.M.S. Dinosaur. 21.03.1944 at Royal Naval Barracks, Portsmouth and in April joined the Combined Ops Base, Troon, Scotland. LC HQ. H.M.S. Dinosaur. 02.04.1944 he was posted to R.N.Party 1500 12.04.1944 his address is given as 36 Sydney St. S.W.3 26.05.1944 He returned to Portsmouth, R.N.Party 1500. On the 10th of June 1944 he landed at Arromanches, D-Day Landings, Normandy with the A.K.H.M. Mulberry B. R.N. PARTY 1500. On 19.08.1944 he joined H.M.S. Royal Anne. A.K.H.M. Normandy. 06.02.1945 he was with R.N.Party 1500, Naval Base, Normandy where he remained until VE Day.

In September 1946 he was Executive Officer, Bristol. H.M.S. Flying Fox, In 1950 he became a Commander and at the Coronation Review he was in command at Bristol of H.M.S. Venturer. He was awarded an 01.01.1954 O.B.E. in the 1954 New Years Honours and in the .1954 Jubilee Review he was Commanding H.M.S. Venturer. In August 1954 he retired being Medically unfit.
