501055 Charles Wade Royal Navy HMS Dorsetshire Does anybody remember my grandad, Charles Wade? He served with the Royal Navy with HMS Dorsetshire. He never spoke much about his time with the navy, but once a year he would recall how he got sunk and how he lost some good friends. Sadly he passed away about 12 years ago. I would be grateful for any info about my grandad.
Additional Information: | My husband has just been researching his uncle, Leigh Radford, who went down with the Dorsetshire. I asked him to also look for my Uncle Charlie Wade who survived the sinking of the Dorsetshire. We then saw your enquiry so I assume your grandad was my mother's brother. Uncle Charlie was married to Auntie Ellen, lived in Manchester, and had three or four children - I can only remember the name of his eldest child, Leo. I last visited them about 50 years ago with my mother, Margaret (married name, Bennett). Uncle Charlie had a younger sister, Edna, who lived in Dudley and was married to Arthur Martin with an adopted daughter named Jean. I remember that Uncle Charlie received a medal for bravery when he rescued a young girl from drowning but I don't know the time it happened. I'd be happy for you to contact me.J Radford
