William Bennett

British Army Leicester Regiment

William Bennett was my grandad's uncle. The main thing I can remember is him saying when his uncle came back from the camp he was pure skin and bone and as everywhere was on rations his family struggled to bulk him back up. To help, the village of Enderby, Leicestershire came together and everyone came to their house and donated one egg from their rations every week/month so that he could get his weight back. My great grandmother reckoned she had never seen so many eggs in one place at a time!
