WO. Robert Gregory
British Army Kings (Liverpool) Regiment
Robert Gregory is my wife’s grandfather. He passed away about 12-13 years ago. His son, my father-in-law Michael, was born in 1944, in Lancashire, his family having relocated from London during the Blitz. Michael told me his father enlisted but somehow missed his shipping out date, so was transferred to the King's Regiment, Liverpool, and was posted to India and Burma as part of Wingate's long penetration force, the Chindits. He said the initial post was supposed to be about 90 days, but turned into 5 months before they were pulled out. He wore a red beret and was in a parachute regiment. On one of his medals he had the addition of an oak leaf. His rank was known to be sergeant and/or warrant officer.
