Pte. Charles Ernest "Sonny" Holmes

British Army Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders

from:Middlesbrough

Sonny was my father's nick name. He, Charles Holmes, enlisted on 6th of May 1931 on his birthday. As far as I can gather he was 28 years old when he was involved in the battle for France. In 1940 was taken prisoner in Dunkirk and ended up in Stalag XXb. Having being marched there he stayed until the war was over. He was discharged on the 8th of September 1945. He never said anything to me ever about the war even when I asked him all he said was I can't remember. Or, was it he did not want to.
