Flt.Sgt. Winston Woolley Blackmore

Winston Blackmore was the pilot of aircraft DK238, which was lost on the morning of 18th of August 1943 as part of the raid on the German rocket development site at Peenemuende. His Halifax bomber crashed near Barth, Germany. Sergeant Blackmore and his flight engineer, F.S. Williams, maintained the damaged aircraft while the remainder of the crew bailed out. Blackmore and Williams were both killed in the crash. The remaining five servicemen (F/Sgt. N.F. Oliver, F/Sgt. W.S.E Wood, Sgt. J.J.P.R Richard, Sgt. G.F. Hodson, and Sgt. R.G. Seaborn) successfully escaped the aircraft and were taken prisoner by the Germans.
