Sgt. James Howgate MID.

British Army 6th Btn. Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)

from:Canning Town, East London

James Howgate was the son of one of the fallen at The Battle of Somme. A Tate & Lyle factory floor foreman, he volunteered to fight for his country at the age of 37 following Dunkirk. He is survived by 6 children, 12 grandchildren and many more great-grandchildren. He rarely spoke of his military service, but said that he had lost many great friends.
