Pte. William Morrison Duncan

British Army Gordon Highlanders

from:Aberdeen

Grandad, Bill Duncan always said he was one of the lucky ones. As a prisoner of war he worked on a local farm and the Polish family were good to them. We know he was in Stalag XXA, Thorn first then transferred to Marienburg stalag xxb, Poland He didn't speak a lot about the war but we know he broke his leg/ankle playing football. We also know the a British Sergeant took things from the prisoners red cross boxes and gave them to the Germans. Grandad hated him as he also was the reason some prisoners were shot for sneaking in things like cabbage to feed themselves. And the said Sergeants daughter married his son. They never ever spoke. We know he was listed as missing in action till 15th of August 1940 and returned home December 1946. We know he marched hundreds of miles. His POW number was 17637
