Sgt. Ralph Brown
Royal Marines
from:Erlestoke, Wiltshire
My father Ralph Brown served on DEMS with the Royal Marines. He was one of the survivors being picked up by an American schooner, taken to Bridgetown, British Guiana, then to New York (I think) and then to Liverpool. I recall visiting him in a convalescent centre in Wallasy with my mother. But I have not been able to find any further info and father never talked about it.
My father survived the next few years, remaining in DEMS, and post war worked as village postman In Market Lavington, Wiltshire, retiring in 1963 aged 60. Unfortunately retirement was short since he died in October 1965 aged 63.
