Pte. Teifion Rees Jones
British Army Royal West Kent Regiment
from:Penmaenmawr, N. Wales
I am told Teifion Jones age 16, travelled to join his regiment. He was refused enlisting in N. Wales.
Lying about his age, he became an infantry soldier assigned to the British Expeditionary Force, then, I was told, fought in the Burma campaign.
The story goes that during the bombing of Singapore, Tei was going down the street when he heard a shout. He turned, recognising the voice, to find his brother Huw Jones
Not having seen each other for almost two years, they embraced, laughing. My uncle shouted in Welsh "tisio peint brawd?" (translation" "fancy a pint brother?") Welsh humour.
Lastly, I was told he was involved with the repatriation of prisoners of war from the jungle camps of Burma.
He was demobbed 1946-1947.
I am his youngest son.
Hopefully I will find his war history.
There are photo post cards sent home by my father in uniform, somewhere in the family.
