My uncle, Stanley Gould, known as Sam, served in 83 Squadron in WW2.
He was shot down over Holland on 13th of May 1943 and taken prisoner. He was in Stalag Luft 3. The postal address was Gefangenennummer 1325, M-Stammlager Luft 3, Deutschland.
Sam held the DFC & the AFC and was twice mentioned in dispatches. He was shot down in a bombing raid over the Ruhr. I have some bits which mean nothing to me, Lancaster Mk1 W4981 code OL-A Wyton 21.54(time) Pizen(mission)
His parents had lived at Jesmond Dene, North Street, Cheddar, but whilst he was fighting they moved to Coburg Road, Ashley Hill, Bristol. He was a prisoner for nearly 3 years and during that time kept a Wartime Log which is in my possession.
When he returned he moved, with my aunt Enid M Gould to Peoria, Illinois where he spent the remainder of his life.
He married my aunt in Hove, East Sussex on 2nd of July 1942. They didn't have any children.
Sam had joined the RAF in 1937. He had a brother, Major G W Gould serving in the Indian Army. He also had a relative, Terry Gould, who was a flight sergeant in Number 10 Squadron, shot down 2nd/3rd of June 1944.
