Oiler/Bander William Albert Gibson

Royal Navy

from:33 Marine Street, Oldham

William Gibson served in the Royal Navy. There was only one story he ever told, that my mum recalls. He didn't talk about the war, only this story. During a supply drop to the Island of Malta, he recalled watching all the Maltese people on the dockside, awaiting supplies from the ship. In all the commotion, a young boy suddenly fell off the dock into the water next to the ship. Sadly, the boy did not survive, he was crushed between the dock and the ship. We know this would have stayed with him until the end of his life, he had a heart of gold and would see no harm come to anyone.
