Able Sea. Thomas Crombie

Royal Navy HMS Sirius

My uncle Thomas Crombie was an Able Seaman on HMS Sirius during WWII in one of the forward turrets. He recounted his experiences to me about Operations Pedestal and Torch, as well as the action at Scarpanto. His best friend William Walter (Poppy?) Wardell was a Pom Pom gunner and was killed in action by a bomb and my uncle discovered him dead at his post after the action. I don't think he ever truly recovered from that. I was contacted about Sirius by a Sirius Marine from the USA and I got the two of them in touch by phone and they had a good chat about old times. RIP Uncle Tommy and all your former comrades.
