Rfmn. Richard Frederick Ruberry

British Army Kings Royal Rifle Corps

from:Lewisham, London

Dick Ruberry was my Uncle Len's older brother. Len and my Auntie Vi were my godparents and lived with my family for awhile so although, Len and Dick are not my blood relatives I know quite a lot about what happened to Dick. Sadly, he never recovered from the trauma of what happened to him in the camp. After the war spent some time at home with his parents but suffered from what we now know as PTSD and had to be hospitalised. He remained in hospitals for the rest of his life but he did live to a good age, he was born in Oct 1917 and died in Jan 1999 so he was 82 years of age. My Uncle Len continued to visit him and make sure he was well cared for, he had a war pension which paid for his care. He was in a care home in North Devon at the time of his death.
