Pte. William George Pow

British Army Royal Gloucestershire Regiment

from:Bristol

My mother used to talk about her Uncle Bill, who she had a great love for, and the fact that he was a prisoner of war in Malbork Stalag XXB, PoW number was 11917. She and his son Keith, told me that William escaped several times during his detention. My mother also told me that because of his surname Pow, most of any correspondence was never received by William because they thought they were looking for a William George (POW)and not William Pow. He did end up getting his letters but not until the time of the march. He survived the War and went on to have several children, preferring the outdoors than the indoors.
