Sgt. George Frederick Morton
British Army Grenadier Guards
from:Derby
My Father, George Morton, served with the Grenadier Guards in WW2. He was in North Africa and was wounded in his big toe and captured by the Germans.
His mate was also captured, he was wounded in his side and when they arrived at the field hospital the Germans used a bayonet to release my father's friend because with the heat of the tank they were transported on he was stuck to the gun turret.
When they were in the medical tent they were more concerned about being killed by the mortars of their own troops than the Germans! After a week or so everything went quiet, and they realised that the Germans had suddenly left. And in marched the Brits.
