Pte. William George "Joe" Mean

British Army Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment

from:Datchworth, Herts

William George Mean was my father. He was conscripted into the army at the outbreak of World War two and joined the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment. William was transferred later to the Kings Royal Rifle Corps. He served in Italy and Greece and I have a photograph of him taken in Cairo but he didn't say much about being there, but he did tell me that he drove a Bren Gun carrier. James was a very private man and didn't speak about his war service at all.
