Pte. Frank Howell

British Army Lancashire Fusiliers

from:Parin Lane, Worsley, Manchester

Frank Howell was born in 1920 and was my father. He served with the Lancashire Fusiliers in WW2. All I have been told was that he was captured not long after he arrived (I don't know where it was). He was in Stalag XX-B for 5 years and was on the forced march. I understand he was very traumatised when he arrived home and even after I was born in 1949 he used to have nightmares. That is all I can tell you as no one ever talked about it openly. I was only a child, so everything was kept from me and my siblings. Even after my father died, we knew no more. I think the events of the war were always with him.
