My late Father, Tom Turner, was a Royal Engineer Sapper in WW2. On D-Day 6th June 1944, attached to the 3rd Canadian Assault Division he landed on "Mike Red" Juno Beach. He was the operator of a D7 Armoured Bulldozer and his job on the 6th June was to clear gaps through the obstacles on the beach and make paths for the incoming troops & assault vehicles. My late father was awarded the Military Medal for the following act of bravery. On the evening of D-Day, and after my father had shut down his Dozer, an incoming Rhino Ferry loaded with vehicles was hit by a German A.P bomb and burst into flames. My father swam out into the sea and pulled two injured soldiers from the burning craft. After crossing through Belgium and Holland, he eventually ending up in the Liberation of Bergen Belsen Concentration Camp.

In the pictures. One shows Royal Engineer Dozer team from 59M.E Platoon. My father, Tom sits third right centre row. Next picture shows my father posing next to his Alis-Chalmers Dozer on back of Hauler.

Posing next to Hauler with Dozer.
