Pte. Harry Smith
British Army 5th Btn. South Staffordshire Regiment
from:West Bromwich, Staffordshire
My Father Harry Smith was posted to the Faroe Islands and then to France.
He was wounded a few months after landing in France. He received
a mortar wound to the side of his face, I believe he was sent to a
hospital in Leeds to recover.
He had a terrible scar from the top of his head to his chin. My mother said he was never the same man when he came home.
He told me that all he can remember was the pain and his own men going through his pockets after a Luger he had acquired.
I think that upset him a lot.
