Thomas Armstrong was based in RAF Scampton as a Navigator Born in Belfast 15th April 1912 he was one of nine children of Robery Houston Armstrong and Jeannie Armstrong (nee Gamble) Mentioned in the Supplement to the London Gazette 5th of January 1943 as a Leading Airman. Operations Record Book, Lancaster III (E.D. 390) Take off 2135 - Missing. Nothing heard after take-off. Bomb Load: 1 x 4,000lb H.C. & 95 x 30lb I.B. Crew:

  • Sgt. Farmer, V.D. Pilot
  • Sgt. Saunders, L.A.W. Navigator
  • Sgt James, M.A. Flight Engineer
  • P/O Armstrong, T. Bomb Aimer
  • F/Sgt. Taylor, J.T. W/Op.
  • Sgt. Leaney, L.H. Mid Upper Gunner
  • Sgt. Long, N.G. Rear Gunner
18 aircraft departed that night, 1 limped home and landed safely only this aircraft crashed. The crew were killed on 5th of May 1943 and are buried in Reichswald Commonwealth Cemetery, Germany.
