Wren. Joyce Ethel Dowding

Joyce Dowding was born in Walthamstow in 1926. At the declaration of war she may have been evacuated. In 1943 she enlisted in the WRNS and following basic training was posted to Isle of Man believed Ronaldsway and/or Jurby as a parachute packer. She was then posted to a Scottish base where she undertook maintaining items used for target drones.
She did not discuss much of her war service or whether she came under fire or bombing.
She lost her brother Freddie serving wth the RAF ground crew, who was shipped to Java with 605 Squadron but was taken POW and died in captivity in Japan 1942.
