Pte. George Walter Wilson
British Army Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry
from:Castleford, West Yorkshire
George Wilson is my granddad. Something beautiful happened due to WW2. George was in the KOYLI Regiment and was shipped out to Burma. He served between 1936 and 1945. Whilst he was in India he met the woman of his dreams (my gran) Meris. Meris lived in Shillong Khasi Hills. She worked in her family butcher shop where George would go to buy meat just to see her. They fell in love and got married.
After the war George and Meris came back to Britain together and settled in Castleford. George worked in the coal mines and Meris got a job as a bar maid. They had 4 children, one of them is my mum, so if it wasn't for WW2 my grandad would not have met my grandma, and my family today would not have existed.
I have a husband, a beautiful son and 2 precious grandchildren. In my larger family we have aunties, uncles and cousins. We all married English men and women so our heritage is a wonderful memory full of happy stories of the times Gran lived in India and fell in love with her British soldier George Walter Wilson.
