Tpr. Joseph Malcolm McNeill

British Army 1st Btn. Lothian Border Horse

Part of the British Expeditionary Force leaving UK on the 1st of February 1940. Joseph McNeill was assigned with Highland Division to assist French on the Maginot Line. The Highlanders were then reassigned to help form rearguard to the South following the withdrawal of the main Army to Dunkirk.

He was captured with many others at St Valery-en-Caux on the 12th of July 1940 after running out of ammunition's and food. He spent his time as a POW in Stalag 20a Thorn Podgorz, Poland and had a rough time which was followed up with being in the Long March during the winter of 1945. Finally rescued by the Americans in April 1945.
