249839 Lesley Francis Royal Navy HMS Glendower from:Plumstead, London My uncle, Lesley Francis, was awarded a medal for winning the inter-divisional swimming event held at HMS Glendower in 1945. To be precise the diving contest. We had supposed the HMS Glendower was a Royal Naval vessel, only to find out it was a Butlin's Holiday Camp converted for the training of recruits. Little is known about my uncle thereafter other than he took service on a submarine for the rest of his time in the service. A little butlinesque piece of late wartime history, no gallantry I am afraid but hoping it might be of interest.
