Sgt. Richard Roy
British Army Seaforth Highlanders
Dick Roy spent most of the War in the Shetlands preparing for an invasion of Norway. Involved in training for gas warfare and also Bren gun. He landed in Normandy on D(+1) day. He ended up in Germany and was wounded a couple of times.
After demobilisation, went to St Andrews and became a teacher.
Dick enjoyed his time in the Army, apart from the fighting, which he never talked about. He hoped to play the drum in a pipe band but they slung a rifle over his shoulder instead.
