Tpr. Dennis George Locksmith
British Army 1st Btn. East Riding of Yorkshire Yeomanry
from:Ipswich
Dad, Dennis Locksmith, told me about the time of getting to Dunkirk. He and a couple of others were making their way to the beaches when an RSM told them to go and destroy some French tanks with grenades. He was eventually rescued and came home on HMS Winchester. His only clothing was a pair of underpants and a tin hat. He was put on a train and ended up at Winchester Barracks.
He sustained wounds at Dunkirk so did not go back to the Regiment, instead he was transferred to Coastal Artillery at Felixstowe.
