Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserves 9 Squadron

Anthony Alexander Rossie was born in June 1922 in Hambledon, Surreyand died 30th if July 1943 in Hamburg, Germany. Anthony was a member of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserves and flew with 9 Squadron during WWII. He was stationed at RAF Bardney in Lincolnshire and was a Navigator in a Lancaster Bomber. He might have been sent to Canada for his training.

On the night of 29th of July 1943, he took off at 22.23hrs in Aircraft No JA692, WS-D as part of the operation Gomorrah over Hamburg. It is reported that his aircraft first flew through a series of intense electric storms before being hit by enemy flak and crashing over the target area.

Anthony was rewarded with the War Medal, The Star and the Aircrew Europe Star. He is buried in Hamburg War Cemetery, Ohlsdorf.
