Sgt. George Alexander Green

British Army Royal Warwickshire Regiment

from:Birmingham

My Father, George Green, lost all his childhood friends when the Royal Warwicks were massacred in 1940. He and two of his brothers, Dennis and Lou then joined-up. I'm not sure if they were all in the same regiment but I do know that my Father trained in Wales.

He told me that at some point the Royal Warwicks were merged into the Royal Gloucester Regiment. He was deployed to North Africa and fought his way along the coast. I believe he was part of the force that landed in Salerno, Italy, in order to liberate that country. Whilst on night patrol he was shot in the mid section and admitted to a hospital. From the hospital he had a view of Mount Vesuvius erupting which I believe happened in 1944.

He recuperated and went on to live to the age of 98. My Father held the rank of sergent at some point. In his later years I tried to get him to identify where he was at any given time during the war so that I could follow his route. Alas, he was unable to recall details so I am wondering if there is a way to track the movement of his regiment(s) through WW2?
