Gnr. Francis Garside

British Army Maritime Regiment Royal Artillery

from:Kennington, London

Frank Garside was a Royal Artillery Gunner on the SS Avonwood when it was torpedoed and sunk by an E Boat on the 12th Dec 1942 while part of convoy FN98. The ship now lies about 3 miles off Lowestoft. He was rescued by the HMS St Mellons, a rescue tug.
