246905 Alan John Baynham Royal Navy HMS Athene from:Herefordshire Alan Baynham was my grandfather, he was known as Jack. He served aboard HMS Athene from September 1941 until February 1945. My father has a photograph of the whole crew aboard HMS Athene including my grandfather.
He also spent some time on HMS Victory, Cochrane 2 (wivern), and Royal Katherine. My father also has photos of my grandfather and a couple of pals from HMS Athene on shore leave in America drinking in some club or bar in their naval uniforms.
It's a shame my grandfather didn't live to see the Internet as he'd have loved to look up information about the ships he was on and the people he served with.
