Pte Leslie James Finn

British Army 3rd Reconnaissance Regiment

from:London

My father drove Bren gun carrier during WW2 and was involved in D Day. He never spoke much about war, his parents were killed on 18th of Octoner 1940 in an air raid during blitz in Sydenham, London. He was with his regiment until they reached Germany in 1945, Dad never saw me until I was about one year old. He had friend called Stan King from Chingford who we used to visit after war, Uncle Stan was injured during Normandy campaign. When I was about 10 years old I was with Dad passing through the New Forest, Hampshire and met one of his army chums in a roadside toilet. We had brief chat. What was significant was that chum had Geordie accent, their unit was 3rd Reconnaissance Regiment (Royal Northumberland Fusiliers)
