246800 Sea. Trevor Leslie Evans Royal Navy HMS Manchester from:Ammanford I believe that my late father Trevor Leslie Evans was a seaman on HMS Manchester when it was hit by a torpedo and sunk in August 1942.
He died after a short illness in 1989 and sadly I never got the opportunity to ask him many details of what happened to him on that fateful night in August 1942. What he did say was that the torpedo hit the engine room which gave time for most of the ships company to safely abandon ship. He said that he spent quite some time on a life raft and he was particularly pleased to have been rescued by a British ship as opposed to becoming a prisoner of war.
My father was a gentle and reserved man and he was very reluctant to talk of his experiences during the war. His name was Trevor Leslie Evans and he was a Welshman from Carmarthenshire. He was 21 years of age at the time of the sinking and would be 97 years old if he was alive today. If anyone has any more information about him I would be delighted to hear from you.
