Eveline Rose "Blondie" Wilson
Land Army Instow
My Mother Eveline Wilson known as Blondie because of her wavy blond hair was based at Instow. She recalls being taken with her pals to different Farms in a lorry to help with different jobs, including planting & harvesting potatoes near Beaford Moor where she met my Father, who had a Motorbike & helped with The War Rag.
Mum originally came from Newcastle, but was living in Teddington when she joined The Land Army & met another girl Who joined & was going to North Devon as well, they became great friends & kept in touch after they married & had children.
Life was hard but after a days work they sometimes went for half a pint of Cider & seemed to make the best & have fun
When my Mother received her Medal she met another friend from The Land Army, they had lost touch & not seen each other for over 60 years & were in several Newspapers recalling there past
I think many of us do not fully appreciate the valuable work these girls did, had they not there would have not been enough food despite rationing they really did contribute to the survival of us all
