Additional Information: | HMS Athene visited all continents and crossed the equator on 10 occasions during WWII. Those ports included Aden (Yemen), Pago Pago (American Samoa), Pearl Harbour, San Fransisco, San Diego, Tahiti Islands, New York, Panama Canal, Suez Canal, Mombasa, Seychelle Islands, Colombo (Sri Lanka), New Caledonia (East of mainland Australia), Melbourne, Batavia (Java), Mauritius, Cape Town, Takoradi (Ghana) and Gibralta. Despite the hardships of being at sea for so long and the huge risk to life along the way and that there was a job to do, it's an impressive list of locations to see at such a young age. Although they didn't get too much time to relax, I have seen an image from the Athene where her crew appeared to be quite relaxed, if only for a short time.Neil Chandler
