After completion of Burma/Thailand railway Hofuku Maru had left Singapore with POW it stayed in Manilla for about a month. 21st September 1944 approximately 80nm North of Corregidor Island beginning 10.35 the convoy was attacked by planes of the 2nd wave of U.S. Task Force 38. The Hofuku Maru was sunk on board were 1,289 POW's, of which 1,047 lost their lives.
