We married in September 1976 when he was 60 and I was 28, we had a blissful but short marriage. My daughter remembers Jack's elder sister saying he was one of the last men picked up at Dunkirk, and later, one of the first to land on D Day. He never talked much about his war service when he was alive, but now the grandson he never met would love to know more about his exploits, especially having seen the latest Dunkirk film.
