L/Cpl. John Charles Grice

British Army Gloucestershire Regiment

from:Wednesbury

My Grandad, Charles Grice was caught trying to rob coal for his family as it was a bad winter, he chose to join the Army. He first joined the Staffordshire Regiment but then moved to the Gloucestershire Regiment.

Whilst serving his country he was shot and badly injured. My Nan received a telegram saying "missing in action". However, there must have been a delay as my nan was making her way to her sisters with tears in her eyes when she looked up as she was taking a short cut through an alley way my Grandad was getting out of a car and started walking towards her. Nan fainted!
