Sgt Eric Charles Richardson
Royal Air Force Engineer 90 Squadron
from:Egham, Surrey
Eric Richardson worked as a flight engineer on Lancaster Bombers during the war at RAF Tuddenham and spent some time in Burma. He traded his flight suit for civvies after the war where he continued his engineering career, swapping bombers for biscuit wrapping machines, but planes were always his first love.
He was the chairman of the 90 Squadron members club and the highlight of his year was always their annual reunion at RAF Mildenhall in September. They'd meet at the local pub in Tuddenham on the Friday evening, singing old songs, drinking beer and reminiscing. Saturday night was the big reunion held at the Officers Club and Sunday was a special service at Tuddenham St Mary church, wreath laying at the sundial on the village green, which he made thanks to his engineering skills. Then drinks at the pub and finally 'until next year old chum', the old airmen would make their way home. Each reunion was bittersweet, every year the joy of meeting up with old pals and the sadness of seeing some faces missing...Eric himself took his heavenly flight in the spring of 2001.
