My father, James Ford, never mentioned his time in the War. Although he survived without a scratch, emotionally he was deeply affected. The only one reference he ever made was when I told him we were moving to Kent. He mentioned doing manoeuvres at a village called Ucking, known by the groups as Ucking! I still miss him and he has passed away over 40 years ago.
