Pvt. Frank G. Milton
US Army 39th Infantry Regiment

Frank Milton served in the 9th Infantry Divsion, 39th Regiment in the European Theater in 1944 - 1945 during the battle over Belgium, and prior to the Ardennes Counter Offensive. Many were killed during this period, and Frank was captured and placed in Stalag 2B in Hammerstein West Prussia. He spent 177 days in this prison, and was later freed by Russian Military. Incorrectly reported is that he died as a prisoner of war, more correctly died, with other POW's in a plane crash during their transport to freedom. He is buried in Belgium, as were approximately 5900 of his fellow service members.
He was my Great Uncle, brother to my Grandfather, and was 32 years old at his time of death. His name is in a long distinguished list of military service members, inclusive of mine, and two sons active duty Marines, father army, uncle army, great uncle army, nephew active duty and Captain Marines, father in law, Captain Air Force.
I am fortunate to have acquired my Grandfather's WW1 era Army footlocker containing 100's of photos and documents during his service time as well as Frank's. They are in mint condition, and nearly undisturbed since the 1940's. I have also located a document acknowledging his service death signed by then President Harry S. Truman.
