241899 Sgt. James Downey British Army Royal Army Ordance Corps James Downey joined up before the war. He left sometime after the war but joined up again shortly after. He was fast tracked to Sergeant and later served in the Middle East, Germany and Malaysia.
He was at some time during the war in Italy. I remember he told me he hated the thought of Italy because it reminded him of long marches through endless orchards with the same boring olive trees! Really, I'm a little ashamed of my lack of curiosity. I never asked him much about the war. He rarely spoke of it.
